INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION TO TACKLE CLIMATE CHANGE IN THE DANUBE REGION

Introducing the Be Ready Project – the UrBan hEat islands REsilience, prepAreDness, and mitigation strategy, a project aimed at addressing climate change capacities in the Danube Region. With a focus on ecosystem-based approaches, Be Ready is designed to tackle the common challenge of urban heat islands (UHI) head-on.

As recent unprecedented heat waves underscore the urgent need for enhanced preparedness and adaptive capacity, BeReady steps up to equip local and regional authorities with the necessary research, assessment, and operational instruments.

Our objective? To provide a comprehensive understanding of UHI, its drivers, and effects, while co-creating, testing, and validating innovative solutions tailored to mitigate these effects in urban areas.

Central to our approach is the concept of “green acupuncture,” a targeted strategy encompassing vegetation-based, surface, and water resource interventions in critical urban areas. Through this approach, we aim to deliver tangible results and transformative outcomes, fostering resilience at the city level.

Throughout the project duration from January 1, 2024, to June 30, 2026, Be Ready will leverage the ClimateSandbox approach to support participating cities in defining and deploying climate-oriented innovations. By engaging with decision-makers and stakeholders across Europe, we strive to showcase the benefits of adopting environmentally sound solutions.
