Foreign workers help the city have regular public transport
Sofia continues to be an attractive center for living and finding work; not only people from the interior of the country, but more and more third-country nationals are also being involved in the city’s economy. In 2026, more than 30 Uzbeks will join the Sofia public bus transport to fill vacancies in the system. To facilitate their inclusion and communication with their Bulgarian colleagues, the Bureau for Integration and Social Innovation organizes targeted trainings and socio-cultural orientation sessions for newly arrived bus drivers.
In cooperation with the management of the Sofia public bus transport, on August 3, 2026 BISI organized a training on legal, health, and financial issues for the group; Y. Kosarova, a lawyer from the Foundation Access to Rights, provided detailed information on each of these areas. The second part of the event was dedicated to social and cultural orientation, in which foreign workers learned more about Bulgarian history, culture, traditions, communication, etc. The event ended with a tour of historical and cultural landmarks in the center of Sofia.
For both the workers from Uzbekistan and their Bulgarian colleagues, BISI has prepared a series of information and educational materials in several languages.
The CONSOLIDATE project is funded by the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund.
