The CONSOLIDATE project, cofunded by the Assylym, Migration and Integration Fund of the EU and led by EUROCITIES, united European cities in several communities of practices, aiming to learn from each other and help each other in major areas of migrant inclusion. Sofia, Athens, Milan and Fuenlabrada form the community of practice focusing on migrant labour market integration.
BISI team took part in the peer review visit in Milan (March 26-28, 2025) to get to know the achievements and challenges the city faces regarding migrant integration. The city of Milan is home to more than 120,000 migrants and refugees. Around twenty percent of the city’s population is foreign born. To provide for meaningful integration and access to services, Milan has launched a co-deisng process of services and established a new Migrant Welcome center, among other initiatives.
The visiting cities Sofia, Athens and Fuenlabrada, supported by the European Network of Migrant Women (ENOMW) and MigrationWork – assessed Milan’ strengths and areas for improvement, providing valuable recommendations to enhance the long-term sustainability and collaboration of the Milan system. Some key points highlighted included fostered migrant participation in policy and decision making, approaches centered on women migrants, pro-active labour market needs assessment and development of solution measures.
