In a world where information reaches us within seconds, the ability to distinguish reliable information from misleading content has become one of the most essential skills of modern life. This is the focus of the first module of the Health Frame health literacy training program, Disinformation Infodemic Management and Health Literacy Program
The module explores the phenomenon of an “infodemic”—a situation in which an overwhelming amount of information, including false or misleading content, spreads so rapidly that it becomes difficult for people to identify trustworthy sources and make informed decisions. In the field of health, in particular, this can lead to fear, confusion, distrust in institutions, and even harmful decisions regarding one’s own well-being.
Participants will learn how social media algorithms operate, why sensational content tends to spread faster than verified information, and how cognitive mechanisms such as the illusory truth effect and confirmation bias influence the way we perceive and process information. Special attention is given to practical tools for fact-checking, identifying manipulated images and videos, and promoting ethical communication in digital environments.
The main objective of the module is to help individuals develop critical thinking skills, better evaluate health information online, and become more responsible participants in the digital information ecosystem.
